History Websites

The Official Kids Portal to the U.S. Government is provided in this website that links many different government agencies, schools and educational organizations that are geared to the interest of children K-8th grade and their teachers. The focus of this webpage is the history of all people in America.

The Past Belongs to Kids at this website. There are articles from early man, to recent historical events as well as an online history textbook, history games, and historical quotes from famous people from the past and the present. Children K-8th grade will learn historical facts playing the games that are fun and challenge their brains. Free downloads if you don't have the proper plug-in.

The Library of Congress has provided this website for people of all ages, but especially for children and their families. There are videos, information facts, games, mysteries, songs, quilt stitching, exploration of states, stories, pictures, maps, side by side generation information, clues to the past, teacher resources, and time lines of American history.

United States history would not be complete without considering the Heartland. Designed for children grades 3-12, this website offers information on the history of Illinois from a diverse background of perspectives. There is a time line that can be accessed to discover the history of this state through interactive stories and clues that inform the reader.

The first Thanksgiving is represented by this website that has information for teachers, kids (5-13 years) and parents. There are illustrations, virtual learning trips, facts, lesson plans, activities, interactive games, and printables. Drawbacks to this website are that it really caters to teachers and not the children. It is more a resource for teachers and parents of children.
