Human Evolution is the subject of this website created by Mr and Mrs Donn, to serve as resources for their students in elementary school. Fact sheets, video clips, powerpoint presentations, games, articles, clip art, and bibliographic information of leading scientists are all linked to this page. This site has so much information that it is appropriate for all ages. One drawback is the presence of ads from Google.
The Hominid Fossil is shown as a comparison of change in this website. Appropriate for 7th grade and up. Photographs of fossils and brain size can be compared while reading about their characteristics in the articles provided. The text is dense and long.
The Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History has a website that asks: What does it mean to be human? Aimed for learners of all ages that are interested in movies and photographs that illustrate the journey through 5 million years of human evolution with FAQ and news of recent discoveries. One drawback is that this site will not be fully functioning until March 17, 2010.
Human Evolution is learned through videos, presentations, and pictures provided by this site. Created for k-12th grade students, this site offers teachers quizzes and activities that utilize the information in the videos as an extension. This would be great as a classroom tool, but unless the proper equipment (headphones) were provided the videos would have to be a teacher tool. Students create presentations with the pictures provided.
Biology and Evolution is discovered in 2 of the articles on this website. The evolution of dinosaurs, plants, birds, bugs and mammals can be read by anyone grade 3 and above. Links to many other evolution resources are also provided. Flash player is required to see some of the graphics.
