Life Science Websites

PBS KIDS This website is geared for children of all ages. It is filled with life science activities are for children to do on their own. However it is modeled after the TV show, "Kids Zoom" and has information about the characters. For children that watch the show and want to do the activities themselves this is the site for them.

Frog Dissection Kit is a website that helps middle school and high school students study the inner systems of a frog. It has a virtually dissected frog with an organ description at the touch of a click. This would serve as a great study tool for students. The drawback is that this is it's only function.

Kids 4 Research is a site that provides information to students, teachers and parents on the responsible laboratory animal care and use in biomedical research, testing and education. It teaches students the basics of laboratory animal science and how research has improved the lives of people. There are also careers listed that are in the field of biomedical research. The problem with this site is that it paints animal research as a positive and cheerful situation.

National Geographic for Little Kids is a fun website created for children between the ages of 3-6 and their parents. This site has information on animals, games, crafts, experiments, videos and a link for parents to help their child get the most out of the magazine National Geographic for little kids. There are lively photographs and engaging stories to develop the prereading and early reading skills of children and interactive picture games and puzzles to teach logic and counting. The negative is that this site is created as an addition to a magazine. There are advertisements along the side to entice the viewer.

Education links includes an A-Z directory of animal facts, projects for kids, articles and educational projects including information about animals. This is a resource for students between the ages of 4-7 and their teachers and parents. Also included is safety information regarding how to behave around unfamiliar dogs. There is a lot of information and advertisements for educational books and magazines like Ranger Rick, National Geographic, and 101 Science Fair Ideas to name a few. This website was designed as a simple resource and does not have a flashy or fancy design.
